Review:  Alice In Wonderland (Movie - 2010)
by P. Kristen Enos

(Originally posted Mar 15, '10.)

What It's About:

Tim Burton's take on the "Alice In Wonderland" tale, so weirdness is expected and delivered.

My Real Thoughts On It:

Tim Burton's name on a product usually invokes a response in me of "Well, it should be interesting, at the least."  With the exception of "Sweeney Todd" (because I'm a Sondheim-phile), I can't really remember a work of his that genuinely moved me no matter how well executed the work was.  (Well, I take that back, the "Corpse Bride" was a movie that I do list as my favorite of his, more for the core strength of the story itself.)

Plus, we (Gay Guy Friend and I) decided to do a late Sunday Matinee showing.  I had been up until 4 a.m. that Saturday.

All this being said, the movie that was fairly visually interesting actually put me to sleep in some moments.  I found myself wanting a remote control so I could fast forward to more interesting parts.  My level of interest was purely from a story exploration perspective, mildly absorbing character interpretation and plot points.  I wasn't emotionally invested, feeling like I will probably forget most of it in a couple of days as I move on to my other interests.

The audience was pretty quiet throughout most of the film, so I couldn't tell if people were absolutely absorbed in the film or were as bored as I was.

Though (spoiler):  What is with that tie at the end?
