Review:  It's Complicated (Movie - 2009)
by P. Kristen Enos

What It's About:

Meryl Streep plays a divorced woman with a successful business and grown children.  Her husband had left her several years ago for his current wife and circumstances brings them to the point of wondering what might have been.  Problem is, it now means that they are the ones having an affair.

My Real Thoughts On It:

I have to admit that this movie was not on my radar at all until I saw the box office write up after its release weekend that indicated that it was a strong draw for viewers who wanted intelligent, mature romantic comedies. Given that I like Meryl Streep and Steve Martin, though I haven't seen any of his recent works, I decided to check it out in my holiday viewing spree. (I admit it's been a few weeks since I've seen the movie in the theatre.)

I totally enjoyed myself in the movie, and so did everyone in the theatre around me. In fact the older man next to me was laughing so hard that he had a coughing fit.

The movie completely delivered what was promised: intelligent situation comedy of a romantic nature but for people who have more mature concerns in life. It was also satisfying that it was honest about the fact that choices made (good or bad) are not without repercussions.

And if you're a lesbian with any dating experience, then you'll understand the complications of having breakups that aren't always clean and neatly resolved.

But the most satisfying part for me was that the story does stay true to the premise that it's a story ultimately about Her and not Him. Highly recommended either in the theatre or for home viewing!
