Review:  Human Nature (Las Vegas Show)
Performance:  Saturday, March 6, 2010 @ The Imperial Palace, Las Vegas, NV

What It's About:

Australia's number one vocal group is now performing in the Entertainment Capitol of the World with a nightly concert at a hotel in the middle of the Strip.  A singing group of four Caucasian men who belt out Motown songs with incorporated choreography.

My Real Thoughts On It:

I had absolutely no exposure to this group until I had one of my Vegas trips at Christmas time, when I saw all of the advertising and a couple of promo clips.  Since I love Motown music and good singing performances I dug a little further and decided that this is a group that I wanted to check out.  And I'm very glad that I did.

Though a relatively tiny theatre compared to some of the bigger (more well-known names for US audiences), it's wonderful to see a Vegas show that has a foundation of talent and nostalgic, novel marketing, rather than lots of padding with the artificial show glitz that can be the hallmark of a Vegas act.  These men are definitely showmen, who know how to get a crowd to their feet, dancing, singing, and yes, screaming along.  And the choreography is non-stop, giving you plenty to watch, both with the lead singer of the moment or the "back up" singers doing smooth steps and turns in the background.

By the end of the performance, the men were understandably and deservedly tired but the crowd was definitely wanting to keep the show going, myself included.

With that, they were promoting the fact that their CD of Motown songs has been officially released in the US, along with a DVD of one of their concerts.

Now while I admit that I was very impressed with the group, it wasn't enough for me to want to shell out some bucks for a CD of their covers of Motown songs when I'd rather just buy the originals.  HOWEVER, I really liked their stage performance, so with that, I very eagerly bought the DVD for home viewing (and reviewing).

I would definitely see them again when I'm back in Vegas, and am planning to give a lot of good word of mouth to friends and coworkers that I think would be interested in such a show.  A casino staff person told me that the band had signed a two year contract and had just finished their tenth month.

Update 3/9:  Okay, after watching and rewatching the DVD concert (which is the base of the Vegas show btw) and some sampling on YouTube, I decided I needed to purchase their albums "Reach Out" and "Here and Now, Best Of Human Nature" which is available on Amazon.  Another addition to my digital music player.
