Postby pkristen » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:47 am

2 Episode OVA. Originally reviewed November 13, 2001.

Summary
Hopeful and hyperactive archeologist treasure hunter Go discovers a magical elf in the hopes that she’ll lead him to buried riches despite the fact that they have a monumental language barrier between them.

Review
Okay, you know it’s a bad sign that after watching two highly enjoyable episodes, the series ends with a character pleading you to support this series (which you already bought) to insure that episode three would be released in Japan. Obviously, that plea fell on deaf ears.

So yes, the series does feel unfinished but it’s an insane amount of fun up until then with the most hysterical shticks for supporting characters that I’ve seen: the main character has a never ending supply of sisters who all look exactly the same and a guy with totally unintelligible speech and a nightmare hairstyle from the 80s.

It’s up to you whether or not you want to take a chance on it. The anime is definitely not of the “miss this and the world will end caliber.” But if you can get it used or reasonably priced, it’s empty fun for an hour.

Lesbian Analysis
Well, because this series is so short and unfinished, it’s not really worth to go into this area. But I should point out that one character definitely has issues.

Reen: magical witch elf who follows Rane across dimensions.
# Accidentally refers to Rane as “my Rane”, and corrects herself that Rane is not really hers, nor does that mean she’s interested in her or anything….

# When she finally catches up with a sleeping Rane, she gives her a kiss.

# Once Rane is awake, Reen then explains that follows Rane to this dimension so she can kill her and take over their elfin world with the power of the buried treasure Rane and Go are trying to find.

# She’s about to kill Rane when Go points out that they haven’t found the treasure and that Rane is needed for that. Reen is stumped and spares her… for the moment.

Rane: Elfin Princess who comes to this dimension in pursuit of magical stones.
# When she wakes up due to Reen’s kiss, is extremely happy to see Reen has followed her rather than be appalled or turned off by the kiss.

# Given that she keeps smiling after Reen declares her attempt to kill her and then changes her mind, Rane does appear to be on the non-intellectual side of things.
