Summary
At the height of the AIDS crisis, this Pulitzer Prize winning musical depicts the lives of a group of fringe artists in New York as inspired by the opera “La Boheme”.
My Thoughts (with potential spoilers!)
I admit, that when I saw the movie when it first came out, I was at the depths of my activist burn-out that I felt it was very cheesy and insulting.
Time passed and a couple of years ago, I finally forced myself to retry the movie AND see the stage musical. The experiences and commentary/documentaries finally made me appreciate its importance to the people who loved this work as being representative of the people they lost.
It still doesn’t strike a true emotional chord in me, but I do consider it a worthwhile and recommended work of art, no matter which form you’re able to see.
